Ask any person on a fitness journey and they will tell you that it can be a very lonely experience. Not only is it hard to find someone who wants to get fit and is able to do so with the same regularity and intensity thus, but even when we are surrounded by people at the gym or at a park, we are very much alone. Fast, we often see runners, cyclists and the like working out on their own. This can get very tedious and is often the reason why people abandon their fitness goals.

So, without in mind, it is important that we focus on the social element of getting fit and capitalise on it. Not only will it mean we feel a sense of belonging, partnership and purpose, it also opens up a whole realm of other activities we can do where we use our partners’ presence to our advantage.

One place where we can look to find a partner for our journey or at least enjoy the social element of fitness a little more is, of course, the gym. Instead of going it alone with our own little program, looking to join classes means we are sharing our goals with 20 or so other people who are probably all looking to incorporate teamwork into their fitness. Even outside of classes, striking up a conversation with somebody who follows your regime closely enough will probably yield results. If they are using the same equipment and the same programs, it’s worth tapping them up.

Joining a running or cycling club is also a great way to bring a social element to what we are doing. This is excellent as clubs will often have several tiers of membership, so if we are just a casual cyclist or a power runner, we will be teamed up with people in the same skill set. Again, we don’t even need to join structured clubs. If we see people that generally are always out keeping fit at the same time as us, it’s always worth scouting them out to be our fitness partner.
